The charitable society

Devashrayam - the compassionate refuge.

Devashrayam is a non-political, non-religious and non-sectarian Charitable Society.
It was started on 17 July 1996 by a committed group of people at Palakkad who were fired by the zeal to be of help to the underprivileged sections of the society. The means were limited but the motto “Help the helpless” kept the group moving ahead.

The society was formed with Dr. Vamana Murthy as the Founder President and Ms. Beena Govind as its Founder Secretary. After many years of dedicated service to the downtrodden sections of the society, Devashrayam was endowed with all material and moral support for the construction of own building, by the grace of God and the unrelenting support from our well wishers. The building was inaugurated on 10th February, 2007 by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri V. S. Achuthanandan.

Our Vision

We work towards a hunger free Palakkad. Of all human exigencies satiation of hunger pangs should be attended to primarily. With this aim we started the Annadaanam project two decades ago. There should not be a single person deprived of food in our vicinity. We also envisage our citizens to be healthy in mind and body. With our efforts, we will wipe away the stigma attached to mental illness and intellectual disability. Every special child will be trained to be self sufficient and supportive to others. They will learn the dignity of labour.
